The Ugly, Update - 21.11.16

Quite a big one!

Managed to get quite a few models done for my death guard. Fewer hours at work, thanks to the winter,  have given me the spare time I need to really give the time that these models deserve and i'm really pleased with the result!

Legion Predator

First of my vehicles i painted, really made me think where i wanted the greens and the transfers positioned on the model. On my next one I definitely think i'm going to incorporate more green, as mentioned by somebody already that there could of been a bit more to break up the cream. the sponsons are magnetised so I can freely swap with other vehicle sponsons in the future, as well as for weapon destroyed results in game

Grave Warden Terminators

Really sorry about the crap picture upfront, only realised it writing this post up. really fun to paint these guys, very dirty models compared to the GW cataphractii plastics.Cannot wait to use these in game, definitely one of my favourite units in the game that I have come across!

Legion Medusa

It got to be, tying with the Contemptor, my favourite model I have painted up for the army so far! I think I have wanted one of these models ever since FW showed it, and the hype most definitely lived up! The amount of detail, along with the aesthetics of this tank, made it so much fun to paint. Probably going to pick up 1 or 2 more of these in the future!

The Ugly, Update - 05.10.16

Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought

Such a fun model to paint, definitely going to get a couple more in the future! Tried some new techniques such as using oil paints for the rust streaking, took a few trials to get it right but I am pleased with the overall result!

The Havoc Launcher and Assault Cannons are magnetised so I can use different options down the line as well as to be removed for weapon destroyed results.

I really enjoyed layering different wethering effects on to try and make the model look as realistic as possible, along with the transfers, i think i achieved this pretty well!

Probably going to pick up a Leviathan in the near future, but the next model on the paint desk is going to be one of the three tanks I have in my 2k list!

The Ugly, Update - 08.09.16

Legion Breacher Squad, Completed!

Took me quite a long time to finish these guys but I couldn't be more pleased with the finished results! Definitely glad I went with a unit of 20 of them as the look so good as a unit, and are so annoying for your opponent to kill them in game. The next project will either be my Mortis Contemptor or my Grave Wardens.

Some close up shots:
Squad Sergeant with Power Fist

4 Graviton Guns in the unit

WIP shot of the shields, probably took the most work of all of the models

And the army so far!

The Bad, Update - 03.09.16

Tactical Support Squad up and running.

Just a small update; my squad of 5 Tactical Support Marines with Flamers are painted to the same stage as my Tactical Marines. I think I'm going to do desert bases for my army, as that's something I've never done before, but I'll probably get the whole army done with that at a later date.

Next up I'm starting on my Gal Vorbak!

A couple more detail shots:

The Bad, Update - 22.08.16

First Squad of Tactical Marines pretty much done!

Finally got a squad of my Tactical Marines done, they're just a squad of plastic Calth Marines with the Forgeworld Word Bearer Shoulder Pads.

I wanted a quick but cool looking colour scheme so I went with a Metallic Red look, and I'm pretty pleased with the results! I haven't decided on a basing technique yet, I'm thinking desert or mud and grass. I'll probably put transfers on the other shoulder pads, but I need to pick up a set first.

The Ugly, Update - 23.07.16

Section Leader Crysos Morturg

My Morturg conversion made from of the 2015 Forge World event models. Replaced the arms with a combi-flamer and a power sword from the Calth set. Decided to paint the the backpack on the base as a word bearer's due to my partner's army choice. Just got a load of new models in for the force, so I am going to get back to working hard on them!

The Ugly, Update - 10.07.16

First Squad done, for the most part...

First Squad of Tactical marines ready for the table! Had a lot of fun painting up the first unit for my Death Guard Legion. Used a few new techniques such as the paint chipping effect and the light wash, which I don't normally use on my models.
I used this Cataphractii Terminator squad to test out my paint scheme because I knew if I  didn't like the way they came out I wouldn't of wasted a unit that was to go into my army list. But i was really pleased with how they came out so i transferred that scheme onto the tactical squad.

I still have a few things to do for the squad. I'm currently waiting for Forge World to release the Power Scythes, which I am hoping to pick up at the open day this coming Sunday so I can equip my sergeant, along with some transfers. I also need to pick up the command upgrade set to finish off my Vox.

The Good, Update - 01.07.16

First steps are baby steps

Having decided on the army and figuring out a list that I was happy with, the next step is what I find one of the most enjoyable in the hobby; building some model goodness. And so here is my (nearly fully built) 20 man tactical squad, because lets not run before we can walk. Nearly finished due to the Sergeant on the far right missing his Phoenix power spear (which I'm hoping to be able to pick up in a few weeks from forge world), also the marine in the far right is not a mistake... yes he is missing a head... and also a backpack, but this is because this shall be my squads Vox and so am waiting on the head and backpack from the upgrade kit.

These models were assembled using the betrayal of Calth tactical marines kits and also the emperors children upgrade packs.
- As a side note, my sergeant has the ploom and a helmet as opposed the the helmet-less head because I'm not a fan of the helmet-less heads.
I'm really looking forward on getting these guys sprayed up (I'm planning on using army painter purple primer to speed up the painting process) and beginning painting. I may at some point upload a stage by stage tutorial on painting the marines but I will see nearer the time.

The Plan

The Plan

As myself and two friends embark on producing three individual Pre-Heresy 30K armies, we thought it would be good to blog about our experiences building, painting and playing with our armies. Our overall goals are to each have 2k of our respective armies, further building each to 3K. The hope being that we will each in turn update our creations to this blog, including the stages we went through in order to reach the final goal.

So, why "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"

Our individual armies are:

  • Emperors Children
-These shall be loyalist, thus attaining the title of "The Good"

  • Word Bearers
- Being Renegades, this army shall be "The Bad"

  • Death Guard
- Unsurprisingly we are labelling the Death Guard as "The Ugly"

Each army will have its own section on the blog, containing army lists, pictures of our models and plans for future work.
